I went to TGI Friday's twice this weekend. What does this say about me as a person? It says that I like the Jack Daniels barbecue sauce. Yes, it does. On Friday night, Whackly actually came out with us. He had a drink! No, two drinks! I think he was in a good mood because he'd left his friend to die in the cold, or something.
Saturday I went to the big show, Lit 6 at Creative Electric. Well, I got there before the very end. I made a wrong turn at Albuquerque, as the wascally wabbit used to say. It was good. Psycho Suzy's was good. All you people are pretty much like you are, you know? Cheap beer is good, tater tots are good.
I was supposed to go to a party in St. C Saturday night, but I was too damned tired when I got home. I planned to go to the Harry Potter movie Sunday night, but I was too damned tired after going out for dinner. Today, my internet connection is slow as hell, so I'm going back to my book. I'm tired as hell, but it's good.
I know it's St. Cloud, but Fridays? The country band I used to play in used to hang after gig at Fridays. What does that tell you?
ReplyDeleteI knew there was something that made Whackly happy.
ReplyDeleteFriday's is upscale in comparison to where bluegrass bands eat.
Gas station delis are a relief--especially if they have tater wedges.
Woah -- that is one of the most profound things I've ever heard: "All you people are pretty much like you are."
ReplyDeleteWoah.
Blugrass bands eating tater wedges in Convenience stores.....
ReplyDeleteSka bands rummaging through the plastic target sack the blugrass band uses in the van to keep its garbage......
A Capella groups scraping truck stop toilet rims for something to spread on toast.....
Friday's ain't so bad, although our waitron had 0 pieces of flair and took a drink out of CrapNasty's straw.
Flair and toilet rims.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a good day.
See, that's one reason I look forward to Friday's, Marvin's discount. But are there any really good places to hang out in St. Cloud? Other than my living room. And if you spend a lot of time thinking about how cool the place you hang out is, does that make you a poseur?
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to that coffeehouse in the garage? That served pop-tarts?
ReplyDeleteGolly, you are still awesome, Kelly. Yeah, that was Java Z. I bought my first pack of clove cigarettes there, i think. I don't go to that downtown/SCSU area much lately, I think it closed a while ago, though.
ReplyDeleteI thought at first you had somehow heard of Whackly's plans for his garage next summer.
I feel for you. I used to part-time for SCSU, and I view Division Street as the edge of sanity. It's so strip mall, if you know what I mean. Friday's might be the best you can do.
ReplyDeleteIn other ways, of course, it's a lovely town. I just don't know what you do there besides teach at the U or play in an awful country band with the District Attorney. I pretty much always ate at Sawatee or the wretched little Asian buffet down the street. Fridays was just where we went to get fortified for the drive back to Saint Paul.
Who was the DA? His last name wasn't Van Heel, was it?
ReplyDeleteNo. She. Kendall.
ReplyDeleteThat wretched Asian Buffit is GOOD!!!!!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteMMMMMMM... Taste Of China UnIdentifed Dyed Chicken Bits On A Stick... GLHGLHGLHGLHGLHG
oh, the current DA. I didn't know she was a musician as well. Kewl.
ReplyDeleteWhackly, is the wretched buffet still open? Not closed by the health inspector yet?
It's been a few years -- she was maybe an assistant DA then. I haven't been down there since 2002 or so.
ReplyDeleteFor a second there, I thought you might know ol' buddy Tina's dad. But he plays some sort of brass instrument, I believe, which isn't very country friendly.
